As you know, the political
revolution that we launched in 2016 was never just about winning the White
House. It was about building a movement of millions of Americans uniting to
transform American politics and to transform our country. It was based on the understanding
that real change always comes from the bottom on up, not from the top on down.
And that is exactly what we
are accomplishing. Ideas that we have advocated for years, once considered
"fringe" or "radical," are now widely accepted by the
American people. Equally important, all over the country working people and
young people are running for office, often for the very first time. And they
are winning!
Last month, we asked for your
help for John Fetterman, a progressive who was running for Lieutenant Governor
of Pennsylvania. Well, in a major upset, he unseated the incumbent and won a
landslide victory. But he was not alone in Pennsylvania. Great candidates for
the state legislature here also won upset victories.
Further, with your help, we
have won important progressive victories in Illinois, Virginia, Alabama,
Mississippi and elsewhere.
But today, I am asking you to
help us move our work forward by supporting a very strong friend of our
political revolution, Pete D'Alessandro.
Pete was the campaign
coordinator for our Iowa Caucus effort. For almost a year, he lived and
breathed for our political revolution and helped lead us to a virtual tie in
the state -- a result that shocked the political establishment to its core and
got our national campaign off to a great start.
Now Pete is running for
Congress in Iowa, and his primary is less than three weeks away.
But you will not find it hard
to believe that a candidate in Iowa who campaigns on ideas like Medicare for
All, a $15/hour living wage and free tuition at public colleges and
universities has a made a few enemies. That might sound familiar.
But if you’re with him, he can
win. And when he does, we’re going to have an awesome ally from Iowa in
Congress this November. So I have to ask:
Can I count on you to split a
$27 donation between Pete D'Alessandro's campaign for Congress and my work
traveling the country rallying people to support progressive candidates? I
would not ask if it wasn't so important.
Right now, the volunteers who
led our campaign to great success in Iowa are knocking on doors and making
calls for Pete. I’m appearing in a television ad for him in the district. All
he needs is you. If you’re with him, he can win this race.
In solidarity,
Bernie Sanders
