Kevin Zeese: His Last Words For The Movement And Carrying On
By Margaret Flowers, Popular Resistance. As I wrote last week, Kevin Zeese died unexpectedly in his sleep, likely from a heart attack, early in the morning on September 6. He had not shown signs of illness and was working until the end. Many of you know Kevin from Popular Resistance, from his writing and podcast Clearing the FOG. He had a deep knowledge of history and the issues. He often spoke of his time working for Ralph Nader in 2004 when he wrote policy briefs as a "PhD in public policy." Kevin understood how political power works. Kevin's work in activism spanned more than 40 years. -more-
Assange Hearing Day Four
By Consortium News. Judge Vanessa Baraitser has adjourned the hearing of Julian Assange until next Monday while a Covid-19 test result is awaited for a lawyer who appeared in the courtroom on Wednesday. Edward Fitzgerald, a lawyer for the defense, told the court: “We shouldn’t be here. Covid could be here in this courtroom. The staff and you yourself [addressing Baraitser] may be at risk, and finally our client whose vulnerabilities you are aware of, would be at risk. “Until we have a result we could make this remote, but you are aware of the technical difficulties and you have said the hearing” should be held in court... -more-

Manufacturing Disgrace: Reuters Distorts Chevron V. Donziger
By Joe Emersberger, Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting. Independent journalist Chris Hedges (ScheerPost, 8/25/20) wrote: The flagrant corruption and misuse of the legal system to abjectly serve corporate interests in the Donziger case illustrates the deep decay within our judiciary and democratic institutions. One of those deeply decayed institutions is the corporate media, as a review of several years of Reuters coverage of the case illustrates. Attorney Steven Donziger has been under house arrest since August 6 of last year. -more-
Anti-Racism Protests In UK As Police Officers Face Court In US
By The Canary. Anti-racism demonstrations took place across the UK on 11 September as the four officers charged over the killing of George Floyd in the US went on trial. Protesters said they are determined to show that previous Black Lives Matter demonstrations were not “just a moment”. Mass protests were staged across the world after footage emerged of officers kneeling on the neck of Floyd, a Black man, killing him. The four men are charged over the death, but it’s understood they will push for separate trials in order to diminish their roles in the incident. -more-

Multinational Companies Account For Nearly A Fifth Of Global CO2 Emissions
By Thin Lei Wen, News.Trust.org. Rome - The global supply chains of multinational companies such as BP, Coca-Cola and Walmart are responsible for nearly a fifth of climate-changing carbon dioxide emissions, according to a new study. But the businesses outsource many of these emissions to poorer parts of the world by investing in production in developing countries, said researchers from University College London and China's Tianjin University. Dabo Guan, the study's co-author, called the work the "first quantitative evidence" on the investment flows and carbon footprints of multinational enterprises (MNEs). -more-
US Demands Hinder Spanish Probe Into Security Firm That Spied On Assange
By Jose Maria Irujo, El Pais. There will be no judicial cooperation forthcoming from the United States unless a Spanish judge reveals his information sources in an investigation into alleged espionage against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange while he was living in the Ecuadorean embassy in London. Judge José de la Mata of Spain’s High Court (Audiencia Nacional) has sent a request for judicial cooperation to US authorities as part of his probe into a Spanish private security company named UC Global S.L. and its owner David Morales, on allegations that this firm secretly recorded Assange’s private meetings... -more-
Remembering David Graeber
By Grace Blakeley, the Tribune. David Graeber, who died tragically last week at the age of 59, was, as everyone knows, an anarchist. He didn’t like to wear it as an identity, as should be very obvious from his Twitter bio (‘I see anarchism as something you do not an identity so don’t call me the anarchist anthropologist’), but anarchism was the foundation of his politics. He was also a friend of mine. When I was first introduced to him, I probably reacted like I was meeting Beyonce. I was a huge fan of his work – when I was doing my masters in African Studies I picked up a copy of Debt, and I credit reading it with renewing my interest in... -more-
China: US Is 'Destroyer Of World Peace'
By Kyle Balluck, The Hill. A spokesman for China’s defense ministry said on Sunday that the U.S. is the “destroyer of world peace” while criticizing a Pentagon report on Beijing’s military goals. The Associated Press reported that Col. Wu Qian called the Department of Defense report released earlier this month a “wanton distortion” of his nation’s intentions. “Many years of evidence shows that it is the U.S. that is the fomenter of regional unrest, the violator of the international order and the destroyer of world peace,” he said, noting U.S. actions in Iraq, Syria, Libya and other countries, according to the news service. -more-
The US Is Borrowing Its Way To Fascism
By Richard D. Wolff, Information Clearinghouse. Viewing the GOP convention seemed a little like binge-watching the last several years’ parade of none-too-subtle signs of incipient fascism. We saw extreme nationalism, scapegoating immigrants and foreigners in general, white supremacy, “strong (narcissistic)-man” government, aggressive foreign policies, and hysterical red-baiting. Those signs reflect how capitalism’s deepening crisis undermines both the centre-left (Democrat) and centre-right (GOP) and shifts politics further right and further left. Trump represents the anti-centre right, Bernie Sanders the anti-centre left. -more-
