NDAA 1031

[See http://www.unelected.org/obama-requested-indefinite-detention-amendment-in-ndaa]

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-California), the Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, confirmed in a mass letter/email sent to constituents and in a press release that the NDAA authorizes the arrest and indefinite detention of US citizens without due process:

Like you, I oppose these provisions. Section 1031 is problematic because it authorizes the indefinite detention of American citizens without due process. In this democracy, due process is a fundamental right, and it protects us from being locked up by the government without charge. For this reason, I offered an amendment to prohibit the indefinite detention of U.S. citizens without trial or charge. Unfortunately, on December 1, 2011, this amendment failed by a vote of 45-55.

The only seven Senators who voted AGAINST this bill--which effectively nullifies the Bill of Rights and the Posse Comitatus Act--are Rand Paul (R-KY), Mike Lee (R-UT), Tom Coburn (R-OK), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Tom Harkin (D-IA), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), and Ron Wyden (D-OR).
