Message from The Intercept
With just a week until Election Day and an unprecedented number of mail-in ballots, experts are predicting that there may be no clear winner on election night as ballot-counting and legal challenges delay the final results for days or weeks.
That means we need to prepare for what could be a total election meltdown that makes Florida in 2000 look smooth by comparison.
At The Intercept, we are lining up an all-hands-on-deck effort to cover the post-election vote count and legal challenges to help ensure the integrity of the results. The moment the polls close on election night, we will be monitoring the activities of far-right militia groups, observing state and local election officials, and fact-checking the baseless accusations and conspiracy theories sure to come from the White House.
And right now, we're aiming to raise $40,000 in small donations to power our post-election reporting push. Will you chip in to help fund this effort?
Yes, I'll donate to help fund The Intercept's all-hands-on-deck post-election coverage and defend the integrity of this historically important election.

We’ve never seen a president baselessly question the legitimacy of millions of votes, openly refuse to accept the results, or call on armed militia groups to resist a peaceful transfer of power.
Given the complications caused by the pandemic, this would be a challenging election even for the most trustworthy president.
But with this president doing all he can to undermine public trust in the results and Republican state officials engaging in widespread voter suppression, we need to be prepared for the worst.
Our reporters have been investigating voter suppression throughout this cycle, from Jim Crow-style tactics used by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to Attorney General William Barr weaponizing the Justice Department to help Trump win. We won’t shy away from calling out unfair tactics used by either party to disenfranchise voters. Our goal is simply to ensure a free and fair election by shining a bright light on efforts to disenfranchise voters.
No matter who wins, it is essential for the functioning of our democracy that voters on all sides are able to accept the results as legitimate. But this election is one of the biggest challenges for democracy and journalism we’ve ever faced.
We have alerted every investigative reporter and freelance journalist on The Intercept team to be ready for anything on election night and the days following.
Will you donate right now to help reach our goal of $40,000 to help fund our post-election reporting and ensure the integrity of the results?
