Warning about November election from Common Dreams

Donald Trump is behind in the polls. He knows he's losing. So to save his failing re-election campaign, he's got a new strategy: starve the U.S. Postal Service and stop people from voting by mail.

The scariest part? It just might work.

As many as 70 percent of all votes could be cast by mail this year, but Trump's new Postmaster General, a mega-donor and political hack named Louis DeJoy, just instituted new rules ending overtime for workers in order to slow down the mail and overwhelm postal workers in the weeks before the election.

Already, mail that used to take three to five days is taking weeks to be delivered. Prescriptions are delayed. Bills and paychecks are late. And absentee ballots will take way too long to arrive to those who request them.

By blocking the postal service from using overtime workers, Trump's postmaster general is practically guaranteeing that millions of mail-in ballots will go uncounted.

Meanwhile, reports are rolling in of states discarding tens of thousands of ballot applications for specious reasons, and right-wing operatives are suing to try to stop widespread absentee ballot programs like the ones in California and Nevada.

And that's just what we know about. There are surely even more shameless efforts to undermine vote by mail happening under the radar.
