Yesterday, President Trump was asked if he would commit to a peaceful transfer of power. He refused to do so.



In the words of Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT), for a U.S. president to say this is "unthinkable and unacceptable." Today, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution by unanimous consent reaffirming the commitment to "the orderly and peaceful transfer of power."

There is no longer any doubt: President Trump is setting the table to attempt a coup. There is new evidence every day pointing to the increased likelihood of a constitutional crisis and civil unrest. Republican legislators in Pennsylvania told The Atlantic that they have spoken to the Trump campaign about bypassing the vote tally, and directly appointing the presidential electors themselves. This is happening in other swing states as well.

The situation is so dire that today, even Trump’s ally Mitch McConnell (R-KY) pushed back against the president, stating that “there will be an orderly transition, just as there has been every four years since 1792.”

We are facing a threat to our democracy unlike any our nation has ever seen: an assault from within by our chief executive. While our democratic institutions are built to weather assaults, they are not well suited for attacks from our president. They need our help.

We are calling on you and everyone you know to urge state lawmakers to elect a victor based on the voice of the voters, without legislative interference.

RepresentUs is a fiercely nonpartisan organization. Our movement is comprised of Americans across the political spectrum. We believe in truth, justice, and integrity. And we all agree that free and fair elections are more important than party affiliation.

In recent weeks, everything has changed. We’re no longer dealing with partisan rancor. The goalpost of what is politically inconceivable to many of us keeps moving. We’re dealing with a rogue commander-in-chief who is falsely claiming that vote-by-mail is fraudulent, and actively discrediting democracy in order to overthrow the will of the people, should he lose at the ballot box.

We are experiencing the most profound breakdown in our democracy since the Civil War. It is time to remind the American people what we all believe in: Democracy. Truth. Integrity. Law & Order. This is the last red line.

We are the last line of defense. It’s on all of us to recognize the gravity of what is said in the video above, stand up, and demand to be counted.
