A right-wing Super PAC aimed
at taking down Elizabeth Warren just got a powerful new megadonor: billionaire
hedge fund tycoon Robert Mercer.
According to Politico, Mercer
made his biggest political donation of 2017 so far to fund $150,000 worth of
anti-Elizabeth Warren radio attack ads in Massachusetts. That’s a drop in the
bucket for Mercer – in the 2016 election, he spent $25 million to help Donald
Trump and other Republican candidates and Super PACs.
Politico wrote: “None of the
gambits to go after incumbents is more pointed than the little-noticed launch
of a big-money group earlier this year set up specifically to tarnish Warren.”
Mercer doesn’t just fund
Republican campaigns – he’s built the right-wing conspiracy infrastructure to
win. He’s invested millions of dollars in Breitbart News to prop up Steve
Bannon’s racist, sexist, homophobic spin machine. And he’s invested millions in
Cambridge Analytica, Bannon’s right-wing data company that helped elect Donald
Trump.
Make no mistake: we’re up
against Robert Mercer’s deep pockets and shady web of influence, and Elizabeth Warren
is in for a tough fight in 2018.
