Karl Marx, from a letter to a friend

"I laugh at the so-called 'practical' men and their wisdom. If one wants to be an ox, one can easily turn one's back on human suffering and look after one's own skin."

  1. And the U.S.A. is a giant herd of oxen. In my view, the most culpable are the academics, especially the so-called "philosophers." Many of them see what is coming, but still only care about their reputations and career advancement.

What about the shared commitment and the sustained effort to change things? Only when it is too late will the academics in this country learn that life is meaningless without such a shared mission.
